Bumped into American Idol star Katharine McPhee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katharine_McPhee) at ABC today! She is so pretty and told me she was on Regis & Kelly show today-She has a new album out ” Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You” on October 12, 2010. She is definitley a beautiful girl next door and tall! Then I went to pick out a dress from my lovely talented friend, celebrity designer Zang Toi (houseoftoi.com) for tomorrow’s charity event to raise money for homeless by mapc.com.  Zang is so into helping those in need that I was deeply touched. Great dress, great people, great cause!

Despite the pouring rain, the very wet designer Zang Toi (www.houseoftoi.com) and I made it happily for a celebration lunch at Cafe Boulud on 76 st between 5th and Madison this weekend.  I know Zang for years but this time I really saw the funny and deeper side of him. Not only his impeccable taste of fashion design and French food, but also, this may be surprising to many, his very very down to earth nature.

Since my story on Zang published on NBC NY site (http://www.nbcnewyork.com/video/Fabulous_Fashion__Fabulous_Life__New_York.html), many have asked me if Zang was from a rich family because he lives in a “palace” that most can only dream of.  But Zang actually made everything out of his own two hands 20 years ago as an immigrant from Malaysia.  He said he didn’t go home for 9 years because he didn’t have money.  Mine was 8 years and due to non stop working. So it was very inspiring and refreshing to know this.  Throughout our lunch, we hi-5ed more than a dozen times and it was super fun!!

Check out this story on Zang’s life journey, very inspiring

NON GLAMOROUS WORK BEHIND THE GLAMOUR: ZANG TOI ON NBC

Putting this story out here itself was not that fabulous, it took tons of hard work and resilience due to an unforeseeable problem. We shot it a while back but couldn’t get it out, I almost gave up but decided to hang on to it because I really believe in the message in Zang’s story and not to say his AMAZING design!! I am very proud of myself and Zang for this-He is such a fun and humbling person. I love Zang’s msgs with smiley faces. Jackie Baylon, the lovely intern and friend did a good job shooting part of the video, just one day after I taught her how to pan/zoom.

What you see is glamorous, but it is not so glamorous behind the scene, you didn’t see me going to his studio for research during pouring rain on my off time, me hauling a camera and a tripod, and doing hours of editing/writing, picking 2 seconds of shot out of 2 hour tape, and yes, Zang himself fitted me and picked the dresses, we communicated about the story in middle of the night. What you see was 3 minutes behind hours of hard work.

My life is not as glamorous as you see here on the photos, waking up to work at 1 am every morning is not easy. But this is the business I love and I know I have the talent and a mission to tell these stories.  Life is full of changes and challenges, I am facing them everyday.  There will be some big changes in my life and I am excited to embrace them.  I will keep you updated. Extraordinary results require extraordinary effort!

Fab. Fashion: Li Jing w. Designer Zang Toi

Come with me for a behind the scene look at the fabulous life and secrets of success with celebrity designer Zang Toi! Yay, I tried on his amazing dresses and felt like a princess. Other celebrity fans include Sharon Stone, Eva Longoria and Miss USA! Zang was so humble and funny, and his UES apt was insane! Immigrated from Malaysia, what are his secrets of success? What is your favorite dress?

Thanks Jackie Baylon, my lovely hard working intern friend for your coverage on this!  Besides the glamorous part, I also did the hard working part: research, pitch, edit, write, direct and even shoot with a camera in Zang’s gown! (Since posted this moring, the story viraled to several sites and the original NBC site is lost, I will replace it but enjoy it for now!)

ZANG TOI’s 2010 collection @ New York Fashion Week was simply stunning. Inspired by prince’s classic song “purple rain,” with prime color purple, black, white and grey, his design is romantic, practical and glamorous. No wonder he is sought after by celebrities like Sharon Stone, Eva Longoria and Ivana Trump.

My favorites are the creative and sexy combination of the hat and the dress, jewelry, realistic style at the same time making you stand out. 20+ years in business, Zang’s design is timeless and make you want to grab it right off the runway! It’s not those designs that you don’t know when to wear. He also has fabulous design for MEN. If you can catch up his sample sale, it is a DREAM and you can call his office to check (www.houseoftoi.com) I loved it and was very very inspired by Zang!

If you are in NYC, you can also visit NY Fashion week tent at bryant park by the end of this weekend-no tickets needed for entering the lobby area and it’s worth checking it out.
